Connecting with a VPN
You never know where your job will take you. Some jobs you spend most of your days in front of a computer in a cubicle and others require you to travel vast distances while still keeping in touch. Other jobs you can telecommute or work from home but what happens if you need to access the main network and you’re not local? Most companies handle the matter by installing VPN clients on company laptops but how exactly do these VPNs or Virtual Private Networks work?
It doesn’t matter if you are using a landline or working with clear wireless internet, if you need to get onto your company’s network you need a secure way of doing that and that’s exactly what VPNs offer. Think of a VPN like your own private link to the company from anywhere you have service. While certain security protocols prevent you from having absolute access from anywhere in the world you are still able to perform your basic functions without being at your desk or in the building.
VPNs make doing your work while on the move easier and often times you can accomplish whatever needs doing without having to be in the office. Perfect if your job requires you to travel or you suffer some medical incident and have to telecommute for a few days.
